Armen Inants received his Ph.D. degree in mathematics and informatics from INRIA and University of Grenoble in 2016. He is now an adjunct lecturer in artificial intelligence at AUA and a data infrastructure architect at The Mall Cloud Company, USA. His research interests include knowledge representation and reasoning, algebraic logic and its applications in artificial intelligence
ARNAK DALALYAN, AUA

Title of the talk: Robust Estimation of Sparse Covariance Matrices

Arnak Dalalyan received his Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches in 2007 from Paris 6 University, the Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics from Le Mans University in 2001 with the highest honor (Félicitations du Jury) and the Master degree from the Paris 6 University in 1999. From 2002 to 2003 he was a postdoc researcher at the Humboldt Uiversity of Berlin, Germany. From 2003 to 2008, he was an Assistant Professor at Paris 6 University. He is now full professor and chair of the graduate program in Data Science at ENSAE ParisTech. His research interests include machine learning and nonparametric statistics, as well as their applications in image processing and computer vision.
NAIRA HOVAKIMYAN,  University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Title of the talk: VR Environment for the Study of Collocated Interaction between Small UAVs and Humans

Naira Hovakimyan received her MS degree in Theoretical Mechanics and Applied Mathematics in 1988 from Yerevan State University, and a Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics in 1992 from the Institute of Applied Mathematics, Moscow, Russia. Before joining the faculty of UIUC in 2008, she has been a a research scientist at Stuttgart University in Germany, at INRIA in France, at Georgia Institute of Technology, and at Virginia Tech. She is currently W. Grafton and Lillian B. Wilkins Professor of Mechanical Science and Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign(UIUC). In 2015 she was named as inaugural director for the  Intelligent Robotics Lab of CSL at UIUC. She has co-authored two books and more than 300 refereed publications. Her research interests are in control and optimization, autonomous systems, neural networks, game theory and applications of those in aerospace, mechanical, agricultural, electrical, petroleum and biomedical engineering.
HRANT DAVTYAN, AUA

Title of the talk: Business analytics using BetaGeometric/Negative Binomial Distribution

Hrant Davtyan is currently an Expert on Statistics and Economics at UN Food and Agriculture Organization (UN FAO), while simultaneously carrying out his PHD studies in business and economics at the European Academy (“Thesis: Applications of Big Data in Economic Modeling”). He received his BS degree in Economics from Yerevan State University in 2012, and MS degree in economic policy from University College London in 2013. Previously, he has worked as Founder and CTO at Modern Economics Training, Research and Innovation Center (METRIC). He has taught courses on Macroeconomics, Business Math and Business Analytics at AUA, French Engineering University, and European Regional Academy
VAHE MOVSISYAN, AUA, Central Bank of Armenia

Title of the talk: Big Data/Data Mining Projects in Central Banks

Vahe Movsisyan has worked at the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) since 2005. He has been a financial market analyst at the Monetary Police Department in 2005-2006, and at the Statistics Department in 2007-2015. In 2015 he joined the Economic Research Department at the CBA. His main responsibilities include developing and improving sampling surveys using methodology of aggregate composite economic indicators for the country. He is also a Co-founder of Datamotus, a company that provides data mining and statistical analysis services. He holds a doctorate degree from Moscow State University of Economics (2007), and a Diploma in Economics from the Armenian State University of Economics (2004). He has been teaching Applied Statistics course at the American University of Armenia since 2013. He has published and presented methodological and applied research papers at numerous national and international conferences.

Adam Bittlingmayer is technical co-founder and CEO at Signal N, where he works on machine translation quality prediction. Arnak Poghosyan is an Adjunct Lecturer at the American University of Armenia and a VMware Staff Engineer in the CTO office of the CMBU (Cloud Management Business Unit). He has been with VMware since 2010. His research interests are in statistics, time series analysis, machine learning, and approximation theory. He is the author of more than 20 US patents and 50 scientific papers.

Title of the talk: Using Deep Learning in BLE-based Indoor Positioning System

Gor Vardanyan is the CTO and Co-founder at FimeTech, a Yerevan based software company specializing in Machine Learning, Embedded Systems, EDA Toolchain Development, Image Processing, and Robotics. He received his BS and MS degrees in applied mathematics and computer science from the Yerevan State University, in 2003 and 2005 accordingly. Before co-founding the FimeTech, he was a Senior Software Engineer at Element CXI, and Director of Application Engineering Department at Instigate, CJSC. He is currently also an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University

Gurgen Khachatryan is a full professor and the Applied Cryptography Research Lab director at the American University of Armenia. He received his doctorate degree in data sciences from the Institute for Information Transmission Problems, Moscow, Russia. He is a full member of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Khachatrian’s field of interest is cryptography and error control coding.
ARSEN ARAKELYAN, Institute of Molecular Biology, Armenian National Academy of Sciences (NAS, RA)

Title of the talk: Big Data Issues in Bioinformatics and Translational Medicine

Arsen Arakelyan received his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2004 from the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB, NAS, RA), where he continued to work as a researcher till 2006. He was a visiting researcher at the Laboratory of Immunogenomics and Proteomics of the Medical Faculty of Palacky University Olomouc in Czech Republic in 2006-07. Upon his return to Armenia in 2007, he became a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Human Genomics and Immunomics at the IMB. In 2011 he established the Bioinformatics Group at the IMB, and in 2015 he became the director of the institute. His primary research interests include development of bioinformatics algorithms and software, computational analysis of disease pathomechanisms, and genomics.

 Hrachya Astsatryan is the head of the “Scientific Computing Center” at the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems, National Armenian Academy of Sciences (NAS, RA). He received his MS degree from the Yerevan State University in 1998, and his PhD degree from the NAS, RA, in 2001. He has worked, within the framework of the Marie Curie Fellowship, at the KFKI Research Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics (Budapest, Hungary), and as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse (Toulouse, France). He has published more than 60 scientific papers in various scientific journals and proceedings.

Karen Hambardzumyan is a 4th year Bachelor’s student in the Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics at Yerevan State University. He currently works as a research engineer at YerevaNN on generative models and natural language processing related problems. He has been an organizer of one of the recent National Armenian Olympiads in Informatics.

Tigran Galstyan is a 3rd year Bachelor’s student in the Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics at Yerevan State University. He won a bronze medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics in 2012. He currently works as a research engineer at YerevaNN on natural language processing related problems.

Hrayr Harutyunyan is a first year Master’s student in the Department of Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Informatics at Yerevan State University. He won a bronze medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics in 2012. He currently works on several projects at YerevaNN, mainly related to medical data analysis.

 Harutyun Khachatryan is a Big Data Developer at Teamable, a start-up company that created novel machine learning algorithms for hiring and building productive teams of workers. He received his PhD degree in theoretical and mathematical physics from Yerevan Physics Institute in 2008. He has authored or co-authored about twenty scientific papers published in international journals. His main research interests are in broader areas of Statistics and Big Data Processing. He currently holds also a position of Senior Scientific Researcher at Yerevan Physics Institute.

 Shahe Jokarian is a data scientist at Teamable. He is currently a BS student in Computer Science at the American University of Armenia. Since 2016, Shahe has worked in the field of data science after participating in a Kaggle competition. He has also worked part-time as math consultant in a work-study position at the AUA.

 Narek Hovsepyan is a data scientist and machine learning engineer at Teamable. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Informatics and Applied Mathematics from Yerevan State University. He is currently enrolled in Master’s in Information Technologies degree studies under the same program. Narek has also worked on several diverse projects in big data applications at a number of local startups in Yerevan, Armenia.

Title of the talk: Agriculture analytics using aerial imagery

Hovnatan Karapetyan received his B.S. degree in Applied Physics and Mathematics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2005, and his PhD in Applied Physics from Stanford University in 2013. After completing his PhD, he moved back to Armenia and worked as a software engineer/data scientist. He has been with IntelinAir since 2016. Prior to joining IntelinAir, he has worked at Mentor Graphics (2015-16) and PicsArt (2014-15).
